WoodWing increases efficiency and speed of multi-channel publishing

The upcoming version 7.4 of WoodWing´s cross-media publishing system Enterprise was announced at the WoodWing Xperience event in Amsterdam.

Enterprise 7.4 provides powerful new features such as a completely new multi-channel text editor and a Newsfeed Publisher inside Content Station to efficiently publish to feed-based mobile channels. The new version 2.0 of WoodWing´s iPad Reader App raises the bar for interactivity and sharing.

On the first day of its WoodWing Xperience event, WoodWing Software announced new versions of its cross-media publishing system Enterprise and its widely used iPad Reader App. Targeted at existing customers and partners, the WoodWing Xperience helped visitors to get the most out of their WoodWing system by informing them about exciting new and upcoming features and innovations.

Content Station 7.4: New multi-channel text editor and Newsfeed Publisher for mobile devices
.
WoodWing Enterprise consists of the Enterprise Server, the Content Management application Content Station and the Smart Connection Plug-ins for Adobe InDesign and InCopy. Content Station 7.4 features a new universal text editor, enabling content producers to address virtually any publication channel directly from within a single application. The editor will also support round-tripping of documents with InDesign and InCopy, and provide copy-fit and preview functionality, along with track-changes, spell-checking and lock-down of features based on access rights. The editor will act as a replacement for the previous Web editor.

Content Station 7.4 has been further enhanced with Newsfeed Publisher, enabling publishers to push breaking news from their editorial system to online channels and mobile apps in a fast and efficient manner. Mobile apps for the iPhone and Android – developed by The Saints, one of WoodWing´s premium technology partners – can display the content live. The newsfeed can also be easily integrated in publications for the iPad and other tablets, allowing for a publication mixing both static, designed content, as well as up-to-the-minute news. The Newsfeed functionality is being backed by WoodWing’s Content Delivery Service (CDS), the same service that delivers more than a million issue downloads per month to iPad users. The CDS handles delivery of the Newsfeed content to the mobile devices. WoodWing offers a detailed white paper explaining the solution at www.woodwing.com/en/whitepapers.

Smart Connection 7.4: digital magazine enhancements
Smart Connection includes the most efficient creation tools for tablet publishing available for CS4, CS5 and CS5.5. With Enterprise 7.4, the tablet creation tools have been expanded to support hotspots on hotspots. This enables designers to easily structure complex contents in a reader-friendly, concise manner. Smart Connection 7.4 offers further efficiency enhancements such as an improved Elements Palette.

iPad Reader App 2.0: raising the bar for interactivity and sharing

For more than a year, WoodWing´s iPad Reader App has been widely used by well-known newspaper, magazine and corporate publishers around the globe for their iPad publications. WoodWing’s tablet solution today goes further than most solutions on the market with its support for nested interactivity, like hotspots and links on scrollable areas. With the 2.0 release, WoodWing is bringing this to yet another level by also supporting hotspots on hotspots.

"Hotspots on hotspots is going to be a big thing,” said Erik Schut, President of WoodWing Software. “Ever since designers started to use our nested interactivity, we have had requests for hotspots on hotspots. The problem has been how to offer a creation UI for this that is still easy to use. We’re very proud how we have implemented this in Enterprise 7.4 in a way that allows us to open the door to the next level of interactivity. And it’s all under total control by the designer without the need for coding.”

The 2.0 Reader App also brings sharing to the next level. Previously, sharing required an external link to share. Now publishers can choose to either share the entire page or allow the reader to select an area to share.

The iPad 2.0 Reader App offers some further enhancements such as the ability to prompt the reader for registration.
