Overnight Apple held their big October event and announced some new Hardware including a new 27" Retina iMac, Mac Mini, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. This event also included the release of Yosemite, Apples latest operating system allows iOS8 users a more seemless and sometimes magic integration across desktop and mobile devices.
Before jumping online and downloading the latest OS X update, firstly question whether your important applications and plug-ins are going to be compatible and allow you to complete that important task to meet your deadlines?
Upgrades generally mean more features and are typically intended to make you more productive, but with many specialised applications being used across the media industry some updates could have unexpected results and cause your applications to stop working how you expect it.
Enfocus, a Creative Folks partner says:
"Consider the frustration to follow if you find yourself in a situation where your software doesn't work following an OS upgrade. This frustration can be felt financially and also in productivity. Standard practice before upgrading your OS should include cataloging your software library and ensuring that all titles will be fully functional in your new OS environment."
As Yosemite has just been released, The Creative Folks team are looking into the compatibility across software such as WoodWing Enterprise, Elvis DAM, Cumulus DAM, Enfocus PitStop Pro, Axaio MadeToPrint, Adobe Creative Cloud and many more of the specialist applications we have implemented for our customers.
If you are thinking of upgrading to Yosemite as it becomes available throughout the day and unsure about compatibility, ask yourself 'will my applications work as expected after upgrading?"
